Hillsboro unveils baseball stadium Thursday
Hillsboro city officials have invited the public to the grand opening celebration of the new Hillsboro Ballpark at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, June 13. The event will include speeches, a public art unveiling, an official ribbon-cutting ceremony, self-guided tours of the stadium, food sampling and an opportunity to watch the Hillsboro Hops at practice.
The open house will be held at the Gordon Faber Recreation Complex-Hillsboro Ballpark, 4450 N.W. 229th Ave. Operated by Hillsboro Parks & Recreation, the complex is Hillsboros premier outdoor recreation center, and now features the Hillsboro Ballpark, a multi-sport facility with an all-weather sports turf and seating for 4,500. The stadium will be available for school and community baseball teams.
The baseball stadium cost approximately $15.5 million. Most of the funds came from the sale of bonds secured by the city, as well as the sale of surplus city property. It will be the official home of the Hillsboro Hops, the Single-A baseball affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks of Major League Baseball.
The Hops season opens on June 14 with a two-game stand against the Salem Volcanoes. The first home game is June 17 with three games against the Eugene Emeralds.
