Portlanders remember march on DC
Hundreds of people marched through Portland Saturday to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the historic March on Washington.
Members of the Urban League, the NAACP and the ACLU marched downtown. Activists said there has been serious change over the past five decades, but the issues of poverty and mass incarceration show there is still room for progress.
We are moving forward, but we still have a long way to go, Khalil Edwards told KOIN 6 News. We see today that we are fighting for many of the same things we were fighting for 50 years ago.
The actual anniversary is Aug. 28. That day, President Obama is expected to speak from the same spot where Martin Luther King delivered the famous I have a dream speech.
