Police identify victim, driver in fatal accident
Police have identified the pedestrian and driver involved in a fatal Friday traffic accident in Southwest Portland.
The pedestrian, James A. Ridderbusch, 76, died from injuries sustained in the accident on Saturday.
The driver, Jeanette E. Fox, 47, remained at the scene, cooperated with investigators and has not been cited.
According to police, the investigation has revealed that Ridderbush crossed against the traffic light and Fox was proceeding on a green light. Central Precinct officers responded to a call of a pedestrian struck on Southwest Macadam Avenue at Pendleton Street. at 7:44 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 6. When they arrived, the the officers found a man believed to be in his sixties injured from being hit by a car. Portland Fire and Rescue paramedics and AMR ambulance responded to the scene and the pedestrian was transported to an area hospital.
The Traffic Division Major Crash Team was called to the scene to conduct the investigation. At the time, it appears the driver of the car was traveling northbound on Macadam and the pedestrian was crossing Macadam eastbound. The investigation concluded the driver was not at fault.
