Three teens charged in November murder of 13-year-old
Body of Julio C. Marquez was found near apartments
Portland police said Friday that three teenagers have been indicted in the fatal shooting of 13-year-old Julio Cesar Marquez.
Marquez was beaten and shot to death in a Northeast Portland alley on Nov. 6, 2011. He was the youngest fatal victim of gang violence in a decade.
According to police, two brothers - Samuel Vasquez, 18, and Ezequiel Vasquez, 16 - have been indicted for aggravated murder and murder. Josefina Jasmin Ramirez, 15, has also been indicted on the same charges.
Marquez was a student at Rosa Hinton alternative school. His body was discovered by an eighth-grade boy on the morning of Nov. 7 next to the Colonial Villa Apartments. Residents of the apartment complex heard gunshots the night before.
Police say they have recovered a rifle used in the killing.
They credited tips from the community for helping lead to the arrests and indictments.
