A teenager was arrested for robbing a man of his headphones with a machette in Southeast Portland early Wednesday.
Javier Coyt, 17, was lodged at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home (JDH) on a charge of Robbery in the First Degree.
According to police, at 1:50 a.m. on Sept. 18, East Precinct officers responded to the report of a robbery at Southeast 159th Avenue and Main Street. When they arrived, the officers spoke to the victim, Adam Hampton, 21.
Hampton told police that a black Ford Expedition pulled up along side him and the suspect got out of the vehicle, armed with a machete. The suspect, later identified as Coyt, demanded Hampton's headphones, which the victim gave to him. Coyt got back into the Expedition and it left the area.
After Hampton called 9-1-1, the vehicle returned and a different male got out, gave the him back his headphones, and apologized. The vehicle then left the area again but was spotted by police and stopped.
Six people were found to be in the Expedition, including Coyt. All off them were removed from the vehicle, Coyt was arrested and the machete was recovered.
