A 15-year-old boy is recovering after suffering a non-life-threatening gunshot wound during a gang related shooting, police said.

The shooting was reported early Saturday morning, around 2:15 a.m., in the 13200-block of Southeast Division Street.

Several neighbors called 911 to report hearing gunshots. When the first officer arrived, they could not locate a victim, but did discovered shell casings and broken glass on the ground, police said.

A short time later, officers located bloody clothing and eventually found the boy suffering from a gunshot wound, police said.

The boy, whose name will not been released because of his age, was transported to an area hospital, officials said. While the shooting is considered gang related, the boy was not affiliated with any gangs and appears to have been an innocent bystander.

An official with the Gang Enforcement Team called the shooting troubling. Assault detectives are assisting with the investigation, but no arrests have been formally announced by police.

The police bureau’s Forensic Evidence Division was called out to process the crime scene.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call detectives at 503-823-0400.
