Oregon’s Health Co-op will celebrate its launch from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 4, in Pioneer Courthouse Square with live music, classes and experts to answer questions about the new federal Affordable Care Act.

The co-op, a full-service insurance plan, began Tuesday when enrollment opened for the new health care law. Oregon’s Health Co-op is a nonprofit with some of the care provided by naturopath doctors as primary-care physicians. The "co-op" stands for a consumer operated and oriented plan.

“It’s an important step toward fulfilling our promise to listen to the people of Oregon and address their desires for an understandable, affordable health plan,” says Dr. Ralph Prows, chief executive officer of the co-op.

“Thousands of Oregonians rely on naturopathic care each year,” says Bob Dickes, the co-op’s director of marketing and sales. “It’s time they were sufficiently covered.”
