Portland man arrested for Gresham murder
A Portland man has been arrested in a Saturday murder in Gresham.
Alamo Shagadadean Williams, 42, was arrested on Oct. 2. He is accused of killing Jeffery Oliver Pope Jr., 31.
Williams and Pope have reportedly known each other for several years, police say.
Pope was found dead inside his Nissan Altima in the parking lot of the Rockwood Park Apartments, 17376 NE Couch Street, shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Sept. 28. Evidence showed Pope died as a result of being shot inside the car and his death was ruled a homicide.
Patrol officers secured the scene and detectives from the East County Major Crimes Team began an extensive investigation. With evidence linking Williams to Pope's murder, an arrest warrant was obtained along with a search warrant for Pope's residence near the 100 block of NE Jessup St., Portland.
Assisted by Gresham Police's Special Enforcement Team, Multnomah County's Special Investigations Unit, Portland police officers and the Bureau's Special Emergency Response Team, detectives successfully served the search warrant and Williams was taken into custody without incident.
Williams was transported to the Gresham Police Department for questioning and was then booked into the Multnomah County Detention Center for Murder.
