Attack on bus driver draws charges for disruptive rider
Portland police have hit a 55-year-old man with several charges after he was involved in a Monday afternoon confrontation with a TriMet bus driver.
Presley Kittredge Ewing IV was booked into the Multnomah County Jail on charges of third-degree theft, interfering with public transportation and a probation violation warrant.
Police said Ewing was involved in a disagreement at about 4:05 p.m. with a 63-year-old bus driver near Southeast Ninth Avenue and Powell Boulevard.
Witnesses told police that the suspect was being disruptive and verbally abusive on the bus and the operator stopped at Ninth and Powell and told the man to get off. The suspect walked up the aisle and put his hands on the operator's throat. Passengers yelled to the suspect and the man let go, got off the bus and remained in the area where he was arrested.
The operator did not suffer serious injury.
