Man hospitalized in shooting

The Gang Enforcement Team is investigating an early Friday morning shooting that wounded one man.

Police spokesman Sgt. Charles Lovell said the shooting was reported around 2:30 a.m. in the area of Northeast 102 and Northeast Prescott. When officers arrived on scene, they spoke with several witnesses who heard the shooting. One of the witnesses told police that everyone involved with the shooting had quickly fled the area in an unknown direction, officials confirmed.

Police started searching the area and eventually located evidence of a crime scene, Lovell said. Some of the evidence that was located included blood droppings on the ground, one witness told KOIN News 6.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Gang Violence Reduction Team, which had officers already on patrol, responded to the scene. As police were investigating the shooting, officials said a man, whose exact age has not been confirmed, was dropped off by vehicle at Portland Adventist Hospital with a gunshot wound.

Hospital staff treated the man and then he was transported to an area trauma center, officials said. The nature of his injury has not been released. Police believe he may have been the person shot at NE 102 and NE Prescott.

Doug Bartel, who lives in the apartment complex, said he heard at least two shots. A short time later, he said he looked out his window to see Portland police officers outside in the parking lot.

A tow truck was called to the scene to tow a vehicle that was hit by two bullets. The owner of the vehicle, who declined to give his name, said he was told the shooter was on foot and running. The man said that he was told by another witness the victim had been shot in the face.

Officers have established a crime scene around the area where the shooting is believed to have occurred. It is anticipated that detectives will be on scene for several hours as they continue to investigate the incident.

No suspect description has been released.
