Five people were arrested and more than 1,000 marijuana plants were seized from several houses Thursday in a coordinated action by the Portland Police Bureau Drugs and Vice Division.
Arrested in the investigation were five Chinese nationals, 51-year-old Binglie Huang, 25-year-old Xinhuo Huang, 61-year-old Liu Huan Tan, 36-year-old Weishe Tan and 34-year-old Yue Long Zhen. They have been charged with manufacturing marijuana, delivery of marijuana, possession of marijuana and aggravated theft of services.
Police said the marijuana seized was worth about $1 million.
Portland investigators worked with Clackamas County's Special Investigations Unit, the North Precinct Neighborhood Response Team and the East Precinct Neighborhood Response Team to serve five search warrants during the probe into a drug trafficking organization.
The investigation found that marijuana was being cultivated in several houses in the Portland area and being distributed throughout the region.
The investigation started about 18 months ago after a tip from people concerned about drug activity in their neighborhoods.
