A woman in a restricted right of way area was hit and critically injured by a MAX train in downtown Portland on Tuesday evening.

The name of the victim was not released.

According to police, at 6:50 p.m. on Nov. 5, Central Precinct officers responded to the report of a person struck by an eastbound MAX train at Southwest 18th Avenue and Jefferson Street.

Officers and medical personnel located the victim, who was suffering from life-threatening injuries. The victim has been taken to a Portland hospital for treatment.

The MAX line was closed in both directions while Transit Police and TriMet investigated the incident.

TriMet officials said they did not know why the woman was in the restricted area.
