Bank of America axing 59 employees

On Oct. 28, Bank of America provided notice that it plans to eliminate the positions of 59 of its employees in Hillsboro.

The positions being lost are all at the BOA facility at 21000 N.W. Evergreen Parkway, which the bank formally refers to as a “consumer banking-legacy asset servicing unit.”

In an Oct. 25 letter to Hillsboro Mayor Jerry Willey, John Collingwood, senior vice president of Bank of America informed the city of the upcoming layoffs.

“After serious consideration, Bank of America has decided to consolidate and reduce staff … at 21000 N.W. Evergreen Parkway. This layoff is expected to be permanent,” wrote Collingwood from the bank’s Washington, D.C. office. “Notification (of employees) began on Oct. 23, and the effective date of separation is expected to occur on Dec. 22, 2013. As a result of this decision, approximately 59 associates will be separated. Eligible associates are offered career transition resources as well as severance pay and benefits. No bumping rights exist. Associates at this site are not represented by a union.”

The notice from the bank was required by the Federal Worker Adjustment Retaining and Notification Act requires companies laying off significant numbers of employees to notify state and local officials.
