TriMet will take public comments through next week on a plan to create a permanent off-street layover location for the Line 8-Jackson Park/NE 15th Avenue buses in Northeast Portland.

The buses layover on residential streets in two area of the Woodlawn neighborhood. TriMet is considering creating a location along Northeast Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard at either Northeast Dekum Street or Northeast Rosa Parks Way.

The transit agency held a meeting Wednesday, Nov. 13, to talk about the proposal. Comments on the plan will be taken until Nov. 22, by email at This email address is being protected from spambots. The final layover location will have an operator break and restroom facility, and possibly landscaping, sound walls and lighting. It may also allow for a new bus stop to transfer between frequent service lines 8 and 6-Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. Both bus lines run every 15 minutes most of the day.

“Our focus is to continue to provide high quality, frequent service to this neighborhood while being a good neighbor,” said Clay Thompson of TriMet Outreach Services. “We continue to reach out to the community to hear how best to meet these important goals.”

TriMet plans to bring the issue back to the neighborhood early next year after considering the comments and other issues.
