Portland Police officers responded to a call shortly before 2 p.m. on Thursday regarding a man who had reportedly shot himself and then fell from the Vista Bridge.

Upon arrival, officers were informed by witnesses that the subject had fallen down an embankment at the south end of the bridge. After locating the suspect, officers took measures to administer medical attention to the subject and requested the help of Portland Fire and Rescue's Rope Rescue Team.

At 2:30 p.m., on Jan. 2, officers were still at the scene attempting to render assistance to the person. Nonetheless, Portland Fire and Rescue personnel later confirmed that the subject was deceased. The identity of the subject is not being released at this time as the family has not been notified.
