She had a hair salon in downtown Portland and married his father, Joseph Alleman.

Henry Alleman was hired in 1975 by Clackamas Fire District No. 71, which merged with other districts in 1990 to become Clackamas Fire District No. 1. When he retired in 1990, he was recognized as an outstanding apparatus operator and mechanic.

Since 1975, he owned the Bump Parlor auto-body shop at 1601 Washington St., where many fire personnel have gone for auto bodywork over the years. He enjoyed continuing work there after his retirement as a firefighter. He was seen with his head under the hood of a car, just prior to the shop reunion of more than a dozen people Dec. 7 at Buggatti’s.

Glen Nilson remembers how Alleman gave him a $1,000 Christmas bonus when Nilson was 19, which he used to buy a banged-up Porsche to fix. Alleman was known for his great sense of humor and his ability to fix and repair anything.

A 1961 Benson High School graduate, Alleman received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Portland State University in 1971 after his military service.

“He was my boss and my mentor, and everyone who came in contact with him loved him,” Nilson said.

Survivors include: his ex-wife, Cheryl Alleman; and his son, Craig Alleman, who has taken over running the auto-body shop. His younger brother William predeceased him.

A public memorial service is scheduled at 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 15344 S. Henrici Road, Oregon City.
