Man charged with setting fires in Old Town trash bins
A 48-year-old man faces an arson charge after several Dumpsters were set on fire in Old Town early Sunday morning.
Portland police said Robert Harland Jr. was lodged in the Multnomah County Detention Center on one count of second-degree arson and eight counts of reckless burning.
At least six trash receptacles were set on fire overnight in Old Town and downtown Portland.
Portland police officers were called at about 7:07 a.m. Sunday to Northwest 1st Avenue and Couch Street where they discovered a sign on fire attached to a building being renovated. An officer checking the area discovered a man two blocks away with his upper body inside a garbage can.
The man was taken into custody, and, with the work of Portland Fire and Rescue investigators, he was charged with arson and reckless burning.
