A private cleanup firm stopped a sewage leak into the Willamette River at about 9:30 p.m. Sunday evening.
City maintenance crews discovered the leak at the Riverpark Condos and Townhomes near the Sellwood Bridge about 3:30 p.m. Sunday. The estimated sewage was leaking into the river from a a sewer cleanout at a rate of about five gallons per minute.
The leak was apparently caused by the failure of a pump in a nearby office building. The building manager could not be immediately located.
The owner of the residential building hired River City Environmental to pump sewage out of the clean out until the pump could be repaired. Company employees fixed it a few hours later.
