Pedestrian seriously injured on Powell

A pedestrian was seriously injured in a hit and run accident at Southeast Powell Boulevard 31st Avenue Thursday evening.

The man was rushed to Oregon Health & Science University hospital around 9:30 p.m. Thursday. Portland Fire & Rescue spokesman Rich Chatman told KOIN 6 News the man's injuries "may be significant."

The Portland Police Bureau's Major Crash Team had been called to the scene by 10 p.m. That team is investigates serious crashes.

Preliminary information from police indicates the pedestrian was crossing Powell Boulevard at the marked crosswalk on 31st Avenue, heading from the south side to the north side of the street.

"As he crossed into the westbound lanes, a westbound car in the left lane stopped for him as he crossed," PPB reported, "but a different westbound car did not and struck him in the crosswalk."

The suspect vehicle is described as white or silver, last seen driving away from the scene west on Powell Boulevard. Anyone with information about this hit-and-run crash is asked to call Portland's police non-emergency line at 503.823.3333.

Powell remained closed in both directions Thursday night as investigators processed the crash scene for evidence.
