Sorin Nita, 32, was biking along Highway 224 at Oak Street Thursday evening at about 6:10 p.m. when he was struck by a car, Milwaukie police say.
Witnesses at the scene of the Jan. 9 crash reported Nita attempted to ride his bike across Highway 224 in the crosswalk, but failed to yield the right-of-way and crossed in front of an approaching car.
Pamela Green, 68, of Estacada, proceeded through the intersection on a green traffic light and did not see the bicyclist. With a posted speed limit of 40 mph at the location, the crash impact sent Nita almost through her windshield, and over the top of her car. Her vehicle was not drivable and was later towed.
County records indicate Sorin Nita has no current address information and is considered homeless. Although he was not wearing a bicycle helmet, he has been upgraded to serious, but stable condition at OHSU.
Green suffered minor injuries.
