Suspect arrested in December 2013 gang-related shooting

by: MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Deanthony Paul SimmonsPolice have arrested a suspect in a December 2013 gang-related shooting.

Deanthony Paul Simmons, 19, was arrested by the Gang Enforcement Team on Wednesday morning and charged with Attempted Murder, Attempted Assault in the First Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail.

Simmons was arrested at a residence in the 2600 block of North Willis Boulevard after members of the Police Bureau's Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) served a search warrant in the early morning hours.

A second search warrant was served at a residence in the 17300 block of Northeast Halsey Street by the Gresham Police Department Special Weapons And Tactics (SWAT) Team.

Investigators recovered a handgun from the residence on North Willis Boulevard.

The investigation started at 4:58 p.m. on December 26, 2013, when officers responded to the report of shots fired at Northeast 6th Avenue and Simpson Street.

Officers located evidence of gunfire in the intersection and contacted several witnesses who provided limited suspect vehicle information to police as well as a description of a subject running in the neighborhood after the shots were fired.
