Two dead, two hospitalized in Monday single-car accident
Two people were killed in single-car on Northeast 162nd Avenue Monday afternoon.
They have been identified as the driver, 56-year-old Larry Gene Williams of North Portland, and a rear passenger, 32-year-old Latasha Simone Kinney of Southeast Portland.
Two other occupants suffered traumatic injuries in the accident. They have been identified as 51-year-old Rebecca Jones and 25-year-old Christopher James Gould, both of Southeast Portland. Gould and Jones remain in serious condition an area hospital.
According to police, at 4:15 p.m. on March 12, North Precinct officers responded to Northeast 162nd Avenue and Fargo Street on the report of a car that hit a tree and went into a ditch. Witnesses reported that four people were trapped in the car. The officers arrived along with Portland Fire and Rescue personnel and worked to get the victims out of the car. The driver and a rear seat passenger were dead at the scene.
Traffic Investigators then processed the crash scene. They determined that the vehicle was northbound on 162nd Avenue at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control crashed into a ditch. Witnesses who spoke with officers estimated the vehicle's speed to be between 70 and 100 miles an hour.
