TriMet: Regular service on Monday

TriMet says it is aiming for regular service on Monday. The agency believes it has overcome the most serious problems caused by the winter storm, which closed the MAX system for around 13 hours over the weekend.

Here is what TriMet tells riders to expect:

Buses

Buses are beginning to roll into service this morning and do have chains on. Riders should expect delays as chained buses run slower and cannot go more than 25 mph. We are starting the service day with five bus lines cancelled (lines 18, 38, 43, 51, 53) and about a dozen others on either snow route or some sort of detour. The list of bus detours will likely grow as more lines begin service. Monitor trimet.org/alerts for route impacts as they happen. We have 79 bus lines that run on weekdays. Our main principle in winter weather is safety over schedules: If it is unsafe for our operators, riders and equipment, we will alter service.

Crews have spent the night checking chains and making any necessary repairs. At some point today, we hope that road conditions will allow us to take the chains off of buses. While that does take a moment, the buses will be able to run faster after that. Also, the more than 200 buses with the automatic drop down chains will not have any delays related to this as the chains retract with just a push of a button. As much as possible, we will have buses equipped with drop down chains running on our lines that use freeways. This includes lines 6, 16, 58, 96.

MAX

We kept some trains running overnight and we are beginning the morning with regular MAX service. Crews have been working throughout the night and will continue to work to keep switches clear as snow and ice turns into slush and debris can flow into switches. Right now this is not leading to any delays.

We have crews out trying to clear platforms and others are working on clearing and sanding TriMet Park and Ride facilities with a focus on the busiest lots: Gateway, Parkrose, Barbur and Sunset. Park and Ride users should be prepared for sections of these lots as well as others to still have some snow and ice. We are trying to get to all the lots but it will take a bit.

WES

WES Commuter Rail is running normal operations this morning. WES, which runs during the morning and evening commute on weekdays only, has done very well during the storm.
