County Chair candidate Jim Francesconi offers help for job seekers.
Jim Francesconi cooked up a creative way to draw attention to his campaign for Multnomah County chair: free job training.
Francesconi, who released a jobs plan this week, has made the growing gap between the rich and poor a campaign theme for his battle with the early favorite in the race, County Commissioner Deborah Kafoury. So Francesconis campaign arranged for introductory-level job training for those who show up from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, at Benson High School, 546 N.E. 12th Ave.
Instructors will teach classes on carpentry, equipment operation, teachers aide work, electricity, organic farming and other skills. Though hes calling it the equivalent of a 101 course in each field, its really just a tease, enough time for a basic introduction. However, instructors will wrap up the session by providing advice for getting proper training in those fields, and how to apply for entry-level positions.
I want my campaign to do something productive for people now. Now just once Im elected, Francesconi stated in a news release about the event.
To participate in the training, RSVP via (503) 235-3379 or JimFrancesconi.com.
