Falling tree injures woman in South Park Blocks

A century-old elm tree fell at the beginning of the rush hour Wednesday in downtown Portland, striking a woman walking on the Southwest Jefferson Street sidewalk.
Portland Fire and Rescue spokesman Paul Corah said the 52-year-old woman was not seriously injured. She was hit by the tree and pinned underneath. However, she was able to talk to paramedics and a fire truck was able to pull her from under the tree.
The tree fell around 4:15 p.m. and blocked part of the South Parks Block area near Southwest 10th Avenue and Jefferson Street.
The falling tree also broke at least one stained-glass window in the St. James Lutheran Church.
