Deschutes County Search and Rescue crews discovered Tuesday night the body of a 61-year-old Southwest Portland man who had been missing since Monday in Central Oregon.
Portland police, who coordinated the missing person investigation, said Samuel Coleman died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Coleman's family reported him missing after he failed to return from a cross-country ski trip. In the Ten Mile Snow Park east of La Pine.
Family members said Coleman, an avid outdoorsman, regularly keeps in contact with family and friends. When he didn't check in as usual after one of his ski trips, his family became worried.
Sheriff's offices in Clackamas, Hood River and Deschutes counties helped with searches for any signs of Coleman. His light blue 1995 Nissan Quest van was found parked near the Ten Mile Snow Park area, a familiar spot for Coleman's ski trips, according to his family.
