PCC celebrates new SE Center building

Portland Community College cuts the ribbon Friday morning to open its Southeast Library Center and Student Commons Building.

The event is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. at the Southeast Center, 2305 S.E. 82nd Ave. It includes a ribbon-cutting ceremony, tours of the buildings and remarks from state and local officials. Scheduled speakers include PCC President Jeremy Brown, state Rep. Alissa Keny-Guyer and City Commissioner Amanda Fritz.

Along with traditional library services, the 40,000-square-foot library includes a student computing center, student learning center and a volunteer literacy center. The three-story student commons building houses an expanded bookstore, five science labs, six general education classrooms, four technical education classrooms and a center for Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM).

Roughly the size of Rhode Island, PCC is the largest postsecondary institution in Oregon, with three campuses and 200 community locations in the Portland area. The school offers two-year degrees and one-year certificate programs, along with short-term training, pre-college courses and life-long learning.

O’Neill/Walsh Community Builders LLC and Inline Commercial Construction developed the buildings.
