TrIMet adding more security cameras
TriMet is upgrading its security cameras to provide clearer digital pictures that officials said will help keep crime down.
There are already 4400 security cameras in place. Over the next five years, TriMet will spend $7 million on the upgrade.
The digital images are much clearer, said TriMet General Manager Neil McFarlane. They also allow us to zoom in with more clarity at facial features, so theres a greater advantage to overall security.
Preliminary numbers in 2013 show there were 419 incidents on MAX, a 27% drop from the year before.
The cameras already in place have helped to lower the crime, and TriMet officials expect the digital pictures to help continue that trend.
