Falling tree crashes onto car parked in downtown Portland
A car parked on Southwest Park Avenue was smashed early Friday morning when a tree near the South Park Blocks fell after this week's heavy rain.
It was the second time in two weeks that a tree in downtown Portland fell. On Wednesday, March 21, a 150-foot, century-old tree fell at about 4:15 p.m. near Southwest Park Avenue and Jefferson Street, trapping a 51-year-old woman in its branches. The woman escaped serious injury.
At about 12:30 a.m. Friday, Portland police said the tree crashed into the street. No one was injured, but a red Ford station wagon was smashed by a large branch.
The tree also broke out some windows of an apartment complex. A building employee told KOIN Local 6 that the tree did not do any structural damage to the building.
Portland officials don't know what caused the tree to come down. Police closed a section of Park Avenue while the tree was cleared from the street.
