Washington County Sheriffs Office deputies are working to identity human remains found Wednesday in the Gales Creek area northwest of Forest Grove.
A Clean Water Services contractor spraying weeds along Gales Creek discovered the decomposed body around 4:30 p.m. May 14. Deputies responded to the area, about a half-mile west of Southwest Roderick Road. The contractor took deputies to a secluded area where the remains were located, according to Sgt. Bob Ray, spokesman for the sheriffs office.
There were no immediate signs of violence that may have been a factor in the death, Ray said. It is believed the remains are from an adult, but that is yet to be confirmed.
The Washington County Forensic Science Unit searched for evidence and processed the scene. The state Medical Examiner will perform an autopsy Thursday to determine the identity and cause of death.
The sheriff's office is asking for the public's help in identifying this person. Anyone with information is asked to call 503-629-0111.
