Adam Lee Schuler, 42, of Milwaukie is facing a reckless-driving charge forwarded to the district attorney's office this week after he ran his SUV into two motorcyclists along Highway 212 near 142nd Avenue in Happy Valley.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office identified the motorcycle rider who was killed in the Tuesday crash as 59-year-old Michael Anthony Palmeri of Clackamas. The other motorcycle rider who was hit but not injured is William Lester Billingsley, 44, of Portland.

Schuler and Billingsley reportedly remained on scene and cooperated with Happy Valley Police Department investigators. Preliminary statements indicate Schuler, driving his 2010 Mazda Tribute, was trying to pass Palmeri and Billingsley on Highway 212 at about 6:25 p.m. May 13 when he struck the motorcycles, causing Palmeri to be thrown from the motorcycle, onto the roadway and into the path of his SUV. Palmeri died at the scene.
