Man cleaning gun fires a shot through neighbor's wall

A bullet pierced the wall of Jodi Bell's apartment at the Sir Charles Court Apartments in the 2400 block of Southwest Schmidt Way in Beaverton.

It happened on Sunday, while she and her family were away. When she returned home Tuesday, she found a vague note from her neighbor and a plum-sized hole in her wall a few feet above her 12-year-old daughter Maya's bed. by: TIMES PHOTO: KENDRA HOGUE - Jodi Bells son Adam, 15, points to a bullet hole above his younger sisters bed.

Her next-door neighbor, whom she knows only as Malcolm, "was not remorseful, was not worried about my family," she said Tuesday afternoon, while watching Washington County sheriff's deputies talk to the man's roommate across the street.

The neighbor told Bell he was cleaning the gun when it went off. He tried to find her, then he "took the gun to his mother's house," said Bell, and didn't contact the police or apartment management about the gun being fired.

"He was more worried about being fined than he was about the health of my family," said Bell. "I'm really shaken up."

A crowd of a dozen or so apartment residents gathered near the deputy's car and strained for a view. Sheriff's deputies at the scene did not comment.

An investigation into this case continues.
