Teen arrested in gang stabbing
A teenager has been arrested and charged in a 2011 gang-related stabbing.
Miguel Vargas, 18, has been charged with attempted murder and assault in the second degree. He was booked into the Multnomah County Jail and bail is set at $500,000.
Vargas was arrested at 12:10 p.m. on Thursday, April 12, by the Portland Police Gang Enforcement Team, assisted by the Beaverton Police Department. He is accused of stabbing Christopher Shoop-Lockett, 19, multiple times on the MAX platform at the Gateway Transit Center last Sept. 23.
Gang detectives determined that the victim and suspect were from rival gangs. Through the investigation, detectives were able to develop probable cause to arrest Vargas.
