by: KOIN NEWS 6 - Police said the shooting victim was found in the 4700 block of North Trenton Street around 2:45 p.m. Monday. Police have identified the victim in Monday's fatal shooting as Andrew Coggins, 24.

No suspect information was immediately released.

According to police, at 2:46 p.m. on June 30, North Precinct officers responded to the report of a shooting in the 4700 block of North Trenton Street.

Officers have arrived, located a gunshot victim, and began CPR until medical personnel could respond.

The victim was later declared dead.

Multiple children and their families who were in a nearby park when the shooting happened are being interviewed by police.

A Boys & Girls Club near the shooting was briefly on lock down, but officials said activities will continue there this evening as planned.

Mayor Charlies Hales released a statement on the shooting a few hours later. It said:

"Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family of the young man who was shot and killed on North Trenton Street today. Members of the Portland Police Bureau, including the Crisis Response Team and gang outreach workers, are on the scene. This shooting reminds us that far, far too many people in our community are the victims of gun violence. Gun violence is a public health crisis, and we as a society need to address this complex epidemic."
