Police talk woman off I-84 overpass
Portland police officers talked a 44-year-old woman off an Interstate 84 overpass Wednesday afternoon, where she was apparently contemplating suicide.
Police said the woman had recently been released from a hospital but still felt suicidal. At about noon, she was standing on the Northeast 53rd Avenue overpass railing and was planning to jump into I-84 traffic when officers arrived.
It took about 30 minutes to help the woman to safety, police said. She was returned to a hospital for treatment.
The womans name was not released.
TriMet MAX lines and Union Pacific Railroad were briefly stopped during the incident.
