UPDATE: Police discover body from suicide on Springhill Place -

Police say that they had to block Webster Road in Gladstone until around 3 p.m. due to a SWAT situation.

It started Monday at 8:56 a.m. when a welfare check called Gladstone police officers to a home near Webster Road on Springhill Place. When they heard gunshots, Gladstone police stopped trying to make contact with the resident, retreated and locked down the area. Milwaukie police officers and Clackamas County Sheriff's Office deputies also tried to aid a man inside the home who fired on police.

Officers said they believed the suspect is suicidal, and that no officers had been injured. Washington County's Tactical Negotiation Team responded to assist and attempted to communicate with the subject inside the home. At about 2:40 p.m., the team entered and discovered the man inside was deceased, from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His name is not being released until relatives have been notified.

Students in the summer sports program had been locked down at Kraxberger Middle School since about 12:15 p.m. Students there have been participating in the KAOS summer youth program, the YMCA summer program and the free lunch program.

Parents were being told to wait at Ridgegate Drive and Oatfield Road, and the school escorted the kids to the parents. Students who do not have an adult to meet them were being held inside the locked school until an adult arrived to get them.
