by: COURTESY OF PF&R - Portland firefighters pulled two victims from a second-floor apartment early Friday morning, July 11. One man died in the blaze.The fire that killed a 50-year-old man and injured another person early Friday morning was caused by improperly discarded smoking material, Portland fire investigators said.

The fire destroyed a second-floor apartment in Southeast Portland at the Cascade Village Apartments in the 2530 S.E. 125th Ave., near Division Street.

The victims’ names have not been released. Nine adults and two children were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross Cascades Region is assisting the people who lost their homes the fire.

Firefighters were called at about 3:30 a.m. July 11, to the apartment complex to fight the blaze.
