Want to stay cool when the mercury approaches 100?

Multnomah County is opening up its special Cooling Centers starting on Sunday, to provide a safe place for fragile seniors who might not fare well in a heat wave.

The centers will remain open at least through Thursday, July 17.

Here’s the centers:

•Northeast Portland: Hollywood Senior Center, 1820 N.E. 40th Ave., 503-288-8303; Sunday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

•Downtown: Meals on Wheels People (Elm Court), 1032 S.W. Main St.; 503-953-8204; Sunday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.

• North Portland: Pioneer United Methodist Church, 7528 N. Charleston Ave.; Tuesday and Wednesday 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.

• East County: Ambleside Meals on Wheels People, Multnomah County East Building, 600 N.E. 8th St., Gresham, 503-953-8201; Sunday, 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., Monday to Thursday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
