Did naked woman pole climber start Yeon Building fire?

Photo Credit: KOIN NEWS 6 - Police detained this woman near the Yeon Building fire.Investigators are checking to see if there is a connection between a naked woman who climbed the flagpole atop the Oregon Bank Building and a blaze at the nearby Yeon Building that required 60 firefighters to extinguish.

The fire bureau said the fire was reported around 11:45 p.m. Wednesday and quickly went to a second alarm. The flames were contained to a rooftop patio on the Yeon Building, located at Southwest 5th and Alder.

The burn area was about 25 feet in circumference, authorities said.

Around that same time, officers were responding to a report of a naked woman on the roof of the Oregon Bank building at 319 SW Washington. Officials said she stripped, climbed the flag pole, grabbed the American flag and went back down the pole.

She wrapped herself in the flag while holding a lighter and fire extinguisher, officials said, and then began throwing construction glue off the roof.

Several vehicles on the street were damaged by the glue.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was taken into custody and taken for a mental health evaluation.

Photo Credit: KOIN NEWS 6 - Police detained this woman near the Yeon Building fire.Last night, a small fire broke out on the roof of the Yeon Building. It was seen by a motorist on the Morrison Bridge and reported just before midnight. The Fire Bureau was on-site shortly thereafter and quickly extinguished the fire. The fire and resulting damage was contained to an outdoor roof deck on the building.

We are pleased to report there has been no business disruption for Yeon tenants. The building did not sustain water damage and overall fire damage was limited to the outdoor roof deck area. We expect this area to be restored to its full capacity in short order.

The cause of the fire remains unknown.

We are very grateful to the Fire Bureau. Their swift action contained the fire quickly and minimized the building damage.
