Two drivers arrested after power pole crash
Two people were arrested late Friday following a crash near Schools that broke a power pole.
Javier Martinez-Becerril, 35, from Beaverton was cited for DUII and Criminal Mischief. He was also transported to an area hospital for observation after hitting the pole.
Keith E. Fuller, 28, from Eugene was arrested for DUII after driving through the crash scene and being stopped by deputies.
According to the Washington County Sheriff's Office, at about 11:13 p.m. on Aug. 22, multiple deputies responded to the area of S.W. Scholls Ferry Road west of S.W. Clark Hill Road in the community of Scholls, after receiving a report that a vehicle had crashed into a utility pole. The driver was reportedly trapped inside the vehicle as the grass caught fire.
When the deputies arrived at the scene, they found a power pole had been sheared into three pieces and the grass fire was extinguished. They also located a 2013 Scion XD with severe front end damage that had left the roadway, traveled 150 feet prior to striking the pole, and then continued an additional 300 feet before stopping.
They also found the driver, Martinez-Becerril, who was taken to an area hospital. No information about his condition was immediately released.
Power lines were also down, prompting the road to be closed for three hours to replace the power pole and repair the wires.
While the deputies were investigating the crash, a 2014 Ford Focus drove around the barricade that was closing the road at 1:13 a.m. on Aug. 23. The driver, identified as Fuller, was arrested for DUII and lodged in the Washington County Jail.
