TriMet bus hits pedestrian at Clackamas Town Center
A 29-year-old Gresham man was struck by a TriMet bus at the Clackamas Town Center Transit Center early Saturday morning after witnesses said he made a sudden turn on his skateboard and crossed in front of the vehicle.
The Clackamas County Sheriffs office identified the injured man as John Alan Wilson of Gresham. He was taken by ambulance to an area hospital, where his condition was not immediately known.
Witnesses told deputies that the bus was turning from the Clackamas Town Center parking lot into the TriMet garage entrance at the end of the MAX Green Line shortly after 8 a.m. when the accident occurred. Wilson had been riding a skateboard down a ramp from the MAX platform, witnesses said, when he made a sudden turn from the sidewalk and crossed in front of the bus.
Wilson suffered significant injuries in the collision, deputies said, and there was damage to the front of the bus on the passenger side.
An investigation by the Clackamas County Collision Reconstruction and Forensic Team, which responds to all fatal and serious-injury crashes in Clackamas County, is underway.
