Girl from Sandy dies on Oregon Coast
A 9-year-old girl from Sandy died during a visit to the Oregon coast with her family on Friday.
Isabel Grace Franks was trapped beneath sand after a sand cave collapsed in Lincoln City, according to Jim Kruse with Lincoln City Fire & Rescue.
Lincoln City Police Lt. Jerry Palmer says police and firefighters responded shortly after 5 p.m. on Aug. 29 and found a group of people trying to dig the girl out. Palmer says officers helped extract the girl, who was identified Saturday.
The child came out of the hole unconscious and not breathing, said Palmer.
Officers began CPR and were relieved by North Lincoln Fire & Rescue and Pacific West Ambulance medical teams.
An ambulance transported Isabel to Samaritan North Lincoln Hospital. where she was unable to be revived.
Authorities said Franks' family as at the scene when the collapse occurred.
