Mother and baby escape injury in one of two early Sunday shootings


A mother and her two-week-old baby escaped injury when a bullet came through the bedroom window where they were sleep in outer Southeast Portland early sunday.

East Precinct officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the 112000 block of Southeast Holgate Boulevard at 5:06 a.m. on Jan. 3.

No suspect information was immediately released and police say there is no known gang involvement in the shooting.

Anyone with information about this shooting is asked to call the Assault Detail at 503-823-0400 and refer to case #16-2302.

Earlier Sunday, at 3:10 a.m., North Precinct officers responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the 1500 block of Northeast Liberty Street.

Officers arrived in the area and found evidence of gunfire in the street and damage to a home. The two occupants of the residence were not injured in the shooting.

Officers learned that the residence had previously suffered damage from gunfire in May 2015 during a gang-related shooting.

The Gang Enforcement Team (GET) was called to the scene and assumed the investigation.
