Fires damage two Portland homes over the weekend


PORTLAND FIRE & RESCUE - Firefighters extinguised a fire on the back porch of this house at 1732 N.E. Highland St.Portland Fire & Rescue fought two residential fires over the weekend. No one was injured in either incidents.

According to PF&R, the first one happened at 4:33 p.m. on Jan. 16 at 1732 N.E. Highland St. Initial reports were there was fire at the back of the house and resident still inside.

Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the fire on the back porch and then worked to extinguish fire that had made its way into the attic. Crews ensured that all occupants made it safely out of the house, no injuries were reported. A number of cats were also rescued from the house.

Investigators determined the fire was cause by an unknown electrical failure on the back porch. Damage estimates were not immediately available.

The second fire occurred 4 a.m. on Jan. 17in the 800 block of N.E. Schuyler. One resident was displaced by the fire in the single-family house.

The Cascade Region of the Red Cross provided assistance for temporary lodging, other assistance to address immediate basic needs, and information about recovery services.
