Jared Kelly White was at outdoor school sites since 2008

Multnomah Education Service District said it is contacting parents of students who attended Outdoor School when its employee Jared Kelly White was there. White was indicted Feb. 3 on 54 counts of sex crimes involving children. COURTESY PHOTO: PORTLAND POLICE BUREAU - Jared Kelly White

“We are working closely with our districts and schools to notify parents of students who attended outdoor school at the Sandy River, Namanu, Arrah Wanna and Adams sites during the time that Mr. White was a student leader, a volunteer, or an employee,” said district spokeswoman Laura Conroy in a statement. Conroy said White’s alleged victims are acquaintances and not outdoor school students, but that law enforcement believes more victims may yet be identified.

White was employed with the district from March 2014 until law enforcement informed MESD on Oct. 22 that he was under investigation for suspected child sexual abuse. He had previously been an outdoor school volunteer from September 2011 to April 2013 and a student leader between September 2008 and May 2011. He was also employed at an event childcare business, according to law enforcement.

Conroy said White passed the standard background and fingerprint check prior to employment and that during his employment the district received no complaints or concerns of any kind about him.

“At MESD, the safety of students is our first priority and we work continually to do all we can to ensure that they have a safe, productive learning experience,” Conroy said in an email. “In this case, we took every precaution and still had someone working in our program who should not have been working with children.”

Anyone with potential information about White is encouraged to contact Detective Nathan Tobey at 503.823.0276 or email at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
