UPDATE: Suspect commits suicide in domestic violence case

Police says a woman was shot multiple times in Southeast Portland early Saturday by her ex-boyfriend, who then killed himself.

The names of the 22-year-old woman and 24-year-old man were not immediatley released. The woman remains hospitalized.

According to police, at 6:23 a.m. on Feb. 20, East Precinct officers responded to the report of gunfire outside a residence in the 12400 block of Southeast Raymond Street.

When they arrived, the officers found a woman who had been shot multiple times. She was transported to a Portland hospital for treatment to traumatic injuries. About an hour later, police found a deceased man who they believe to be the suspect in this shooting behind a fence near the intersection of Southeast 134th Drive and Holgate Boulevard. He appeared to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police seized the handgun as evidence.

Witnesses told police this morning when they were investigating the woman's shooting they heard multiple gunshots and the sounds of a vehicle speeding out of the area.

Officers located the suspect's vehicle parked in the 13100 block of Southeast Long Street.

Based on preliminary information, the Domestic Violence Reduction Unit (DVRU) is responding to assist with the investigation.

There does not appear to be any risk to the general public in this case.
