Man arrested for Southeast Portland church and house fires

MULTNOMAH COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE - Jaime Calderon, 46, confessed to starting the church fire and another fire in a vacant house across the street.A 46-year-old man was arrested Sunday for starting morning fires at a Southeast Portland church and nearby vacant house.

Jamie Calderon confessed to starting the fires at the church at 650 S.E. 139th Ave. and a fire in a vacant house across the street at 651 S.E. 139th Ave.

Calderon has been charged with two counts of Arson 1 and may face additional charges. No one was injured and the investigation is ongoing.

Damage to the church is reported at $100,000 and damage to the house at $3,500.

Portland Fire & Rescue crews responded to the report of a fire at the Eastside Free Methodist Church at Southeast around 1:45 a.m. on Feb. 21. When they arrived, firefighters saw fire coming from one side of the building. It was quickly put out.

No one was injured.
