Homes, businesses in Lents lose water service as pipe repairs continue

Water service has been interrupted to about 90 residents and businesses Friday as city crews continue repairs to a 104-year-old water main that ruptured Thursday evening on Southeast 82nd Avenue.
Portland Water Bureau officials said 82nd Avenue would remain closed Dec. 16 at Southeast Ellis Street. The 8-inch cast iron pipe installed in 1912 pipe broke during the evening Dec. 15, closing a section of 82nd Avenue. City crews said a large section of the pipe would have to be replaced.
Water service is disrupted to businesses along 82nd Avenue from Foster Road to Woodstock Boulevard, and homes on Knight Street. Service were shut off to homes and businesses on Ellis Street between 78th and 82nd.
Portland's Water Bureau responds to about 200 water pipe breaks each year.
