Each year at the Portland International Auto Show, the Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association and Pamplin Media Group partner to give away a new vehicle to one lucky attendee.
This year's prize was a 2017 Volkswagen Golf Alltrack SEL. The winner was chosen on the final day of the show, which ran from Jan. 26 to 29 at the Oregon Convention Center.
"The funnest part of our show is giving the car away," said Greg Remensperger, Executive Vice President of the Metro Portland New Car Dealers Association.
Show-goers entered the drawing throughout the weekend, and at the end of each day, a finalist was selected at random. Then, at the end of the show, all four finalists were gathered together back at the show. Each finalist selected a Volkswagen key and tried to unlock the car.
Henry Cha, who lives near the border of Portland and Gresham with his wife Paylee, was the second finalist to make the attempt, and he had the correct key.
"I swear it took a few seconds for the car to react, but I saw the lights go off and I heard the beeping," Henry said. "I didn't know how to react, so I just threw my fist in the air. I already felt like a winner just by getting the phone call to be a finalist."
Paylee was also on hand for the critical moment. "I was so excited! I felt like, is this actually happening?" she said.
