The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office reports that an inmate was found dead at the Multnomah County Detention Center early Sunday.
The name of the inmate and the cause of death were not immediately released, although the MCSO says the preliminary investigation indicates no signs of foul play.
The body has been turned over to the Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office. More information is expected to be released Monday.
According to the MCSO, at approximately 7:45 a.m. on Aug. 13, Corrections Division deputies conducting a routine morning "wake up" check at the jail in the downtown Multnomah County Justice Crenter found an unresponsive inmate inside a cell.
Division medical staff responded immediately and began life-saving medical care. Emergency Medical Technicians from American Medical Response arrived several minutes later and pronounced the inmate deceased at the scene.
As is matter of routine practice, MCSO detectives responded and are conducting a full investigation. Sheriff Michael Reese and Corrections Division Chief Deputy Mike Shults also responded to the facility.
